It's common to feel bored and uninspired by space when you have been living with the same kitchen for years and you don't have the budget to change it or are a renter and can't do much, anyway. And winter is the moment we begin fixing on the kitchen. You know, we spend more time indoors looking at the stuff that drive us nuts.
While you may not be able to make a big change, you can do a few little things like welcoming some fabulous trending kitchen accessories, that will energize the space and make you love it a bit more.
1. Bake something
Even if it's just a half-batch of cookies, spending time cooking a treat in the kitchen that smells and tastes incredible may be enough to remember what makes this space the favorite gathering place for everyone. Even better invite a friend to share a cup of coffee or a glass of wine while you're doing it, so you'll be able to reconnect and share a treat.
2. Boil something
Try to fill the air with a cosy and energizing fragrance by simmering your favorite ingredients like lemon slices, cloves, and cinnamon sticks in the oven if your kitchen just feels a little stale. As the steam fills the space, the aromatherapy impact of the beautiful scents will be obtained, plus a little humidity in the air to offset the dryness of winter.
3. Reorganize a cabinet.
Are there any cupboards or drawers that drive you insane? Water bottles on your head, gadgets buried under other kitchen gadgets, the "good" dish towels hidden behind the frayed ancient stained ones that no longer absorb? Today is the day to address this room! Stick to the one area, put on some music that is energizing, and go. Be ruthless! Fix that issue and it's going to be a little better every day in the kitchen.
4. Trade out the hardware.
This is a rental-friendly and not all that costly designer favorite brilliant small kitchen ideas (although you can readily spend a gazillion bucks if that's your jam). All it takes is to trade these fundamental knobs for fresh hardware in a trendy metallic, cool geometric shape, or quirky color, to make boring cabinets feel cool. Save all the ancient hardware if you believe you can move your mind out or alter it.
5. Add a pattern.
Linens and temporary wallpaper are two fast ways to give your home an energetic and trendy pattern without committing to tile or actual wallpaper work or permanence. So hit your favorite home shop and see what you're talking about, then change into a fresh kitchen towel or rug. Or line the racks with funky paper, drawer bottoms, or backsplash trends. In particular, I enjoy the prints of Chasing Paper; they are made from fabric, so they are sturdier for the kitchen than other adhesive paper.
6. Upgrade your lighting.
Old, fussy lighting — or not enough in a room — can make a kitchen feel drab. So consider adding adhesive lighting or LED strips under your cabinets to add an extra lighting layer, or selling your boring pendants for cool new ones. The ones at IKEA are contemporary and dirt-cheap, and from shops such as West Elm or World Market you can also get big bang from your buck. We also enjoy a table lamp in the kitchen for what it's worth.
7. Embrace the chaos.
So your refrigerator is (yet) covered in vacation cards, food splatters are on the ground, and your freezer is jam-packed with who knows what. Take a moment to look at it with appreciation instead of resenting the mess your refrigerator is complete, your friends fill the kitchen with their love, and all these spills are traces of excellent family meals. That chaotic cooking implies excellent life.
